What Will You Learn?
When you become an SSI Level 1 freediver, you open the door to worldwide freediving opportunities. Learning to freedive with SSI is easier than you think. In this program, online training, pool/confined water sessions and open water dives are combined to help you become a confident and safe freediver in no time. Once certified, you can freedive with a buddy in open water up to a depth of 20 meters and explore a variety of stunning underwater ecosystems around the world.

The SSI Freediving Level 1 Course consists of three main phases:
- Four Academic Sessions (Independent study or in a classroom)
- Two Pool / Confined Water Sessions
- Two Open Water Dives- Where its time to use the knowledge and skills you acquired, in the open ocean to complete the SSI Freediving Level 1 Course
What Will You Do?
- Complete academic sessions and assessments as outlined in the instructor manual for Freediving Level 1.
- Complete the program’s final exam.
- Complete at least one (1) breathing session as outlined in the instructor manual for Freediving Level 1.
- Complete at least two (2) pool/confined water sessions as outlined in the instructor manual for Freediving Level I.
- Complete at least two (2) open water sessions as outlined in the instructor manual for Freediving Level 1.
Course Schedule
Recommended hours for completion: 16-20. The number of classes, hours and sessions per day are set by the individual instructor, based on student needs, student ability and water conditions.

Equipment Requirements
Unless the program-specific instructor manual states otherwise, each freediving student must be equipped with a properly fitted Total Freediving System, including:
• Mask
• Snorkel
• Bi-fins(standard length or long freediving fins)
• Exposure suit appropriate for the environment
• Weight System
• Logbook
Students are required to wear a freediving safety lanyard if any of the following conditions apply:
• Level 2 Freediving programs and higher
• Vertical visibility is less than 10 meters
• The planned freedive is deeper than 20 meters in depth
• On any site where the natural bottom depth is 30 meters or deeper
*Equipment will be provided by your Dive Centre. We recommend that you should get your own gear once you become a certified diver.
