Do you like sharing your freediving technique, knowledge, and experience? Are you ready to help freedivers increase their average breath hold time and build new freediving communities? Then becoming an SSI Freediving Level 2 Instructor is for you!
Advance your professional freediving career and become the best instructor you can be. Upon course completion, you can conduct a range of freediving courses, including SSI Freediving Level 2.
The SSI Freediving Instructor Level 2 Course consists of three main phases:
- Nine Academic Sessions (Independent study or in a classroom)
- Three Pool / Confined Water Sessions
- Three Open Water Dives – Where its time to use the knowledge and skills you acquired, in the open ocean to complete the SSI Freediving Instructor Level 2 Course.
Maximum Training Depth : 40 meter / 130 feet
What Will You Do?
Read and complete Sections 1-9, including reviews and assessments, of the Freediving InstructorTraining Course digital learning.
- Complete Academic Sessions 1-9 as outlined in the instructor manual for the Freediving InstructorTraining Course.
- Complete the program’s final exam.
- Complete the CandidateWater Fitness Evaluation as outlined in the SSI Training Standards if it has been more than six monthssince the candidate has been evaluated.
- Pass all requirements and evaluationsfor Practical Application Sessions 1-10 as outlined in the instructor manual for the InstructorTraining Course.
Course Schedule
Recommended hours for completion: 85-100. The number of classes, hours and sessions per day are set by the individual instructor, based on student needs, student ability and water conditions.

Course Prerequisites
Minimum age: 18 years old.
Option 1
• Have logged at least 100 in-water freediving sessions.
Have the following SSI certifications or equivalent from a recognized training agency:
• Freediving Level 3
• TrainingTechniques
Option 2
Have the following SSI certifications or equivalent from a recognized training agency:
• Freediving Level 3
Have the following active status SSI certifications (no equivalency permitted):
• Freediving Level 1 Instructor
Option 3
Have the following active status SSI certifications (no equivalency permitted):
• Freediving Level 1 Instructor
Have issued at least:
• 10 Freediving Level 1 certifications
• 5 Training Technique certifications
Equipment Requirements
Unless the program-specific instructor manual states otherwise, each freediving student must be equipped with a properly fitted Total Freediving System, including:
• Mask
• Snorkel
• Bi-fins(standard length or long freediving fins)
• Exposure suit appropriate for the environment
• Weight System
• Logbook
Students are required to wear a freediving safety lanyard if any of the following conditions apply:
• Level 2 Freediving programs and higher
• Vertical visibility is less than 10 meters
• The planned freedive is deeper than 20 meters in depth
• On any site where the natural bottom depth is 30 meters or deeper
*Equipment will be provided by your Dive Centre. We recommend that you should get your own gear once you become a certified diver.
