As an SSI Freediving Assistant Instructor Trainer, you will be a top educator in your area to grow freediving.
Once an SSI Freediving Level II Instructor with 75 student certifications from different levels, you can qualify to join the prestigious SSI Instructor Trainer seminar.
The SSI Freediving Assistant Instructor Trainer Course consists of three main phases:
- Thirteen Academic Sessions (Independent study or in a classroom)
- Two Pool / Confined Water Sessions
- Two Open Water Dives – Where its time to use the knowledge and skills you acquired, in the open ocean to complete the SSI Freediving Assistant Instructor Trainer Course.
Maximum Training Depth : 20 meters / 60 feet
What Will You Do?
- Complete and pass all requirements for Freediving Assistant InstructorTrainer.
- Complete the program’s final exam.
- Complete the CandidateWater Fitness Evaluation as outlined in the SSI Training Standards.
Achieve the following performance requirements:
- 20-meter blackout rescue with hang.
- 20-meter blackout rescue with a 50-meter surface tow while giving rescue breaths.
Course Schedule
Recommended hours for completion: 50-64. The number of classes, hours and sessions per day are set by the individual instructor, based on student needs, student ability and environmental conditions.

Course Prerequisites
Minimum age: 18 years old.
Have the following active status SSI certi,cations (no equivalency permitted):
• Freediving Level 2 Instructor
Have issued at least:
• 50 total freediving certifications
• 30 Pool Freediving or Freediving Level 1 certifications
• 10 Freediving Level 2 certifications
• 5Training Techniques certifications
Equipment Requirements
Unless the program-specific instructor manual states otherwise, each freediving student must be equipped with a properly fitted Total Freediving System, including:
• Mask
• Snorkel
• Bi-fins(standard length or long freediving fins)
• Exposure suit appropriate for the environment
• Weight System
• Logbook
Students are required to wear a freediving safety lanyard if any of the following conditions apply:
• Level 2 Freediving programs and higher
• Vertical visibility is less than 10 meters
• The planned freedive is deeper than 20 meters in depth
• On any site where the natural bottom depth is 30 meters or deeper
*Equipment will be provided by your Dive Centre. We recommend that you should get your own gear once you become a certified diver.
